Damon and I have made it a goal to try new things and stay busy during the wait so when our good friends, Chris and Suzie, invited us to go raspberry picking this past Saturday we were totally up for it. We arrived at Mitchell’s Farm and the owner told us that it was getting late in the season but there were still tons of berries to pick. It was an overcast morning and was misting rain but we had a really great time and were very successful in the raspberry picking department.
Here are some of the pictures I took.
Since we had SO many berries I felt inspired to bake something with them. The inspiration to cook is a rarity for me so I thought I should take advantage. When I was talking to my sister recently she had mentioned going to a scone party so I had scones on the brain. Damon found a recipe online for me and off I went. I was a little nervous because the last time I decided to bake it did not go so well. I used a banana nut bread recipe to make banana nut muffins, which would have been fine, except that I didn’t alter the time in the oven. Needless to say, the muffins came out resembling rubber. BUT this time my scones turned out great.
Here are some pics of my scone baking extravaganza.
Finished product
I am very proud of myself and love that we picked the berries ourselves and then came home and used them in a recipe. This is where you shower me with positive reinforcement so that I will be encouraged to do this again. J We still have lots of berries in the freezer so I’ll have to find some more recipes.
Awesome! And those scones look DEE-LISH! If you could mail me one, haha....
ReplyDeleteWere there a few of those golden-colored raspberries in one of those pictures? We went raspberry picking for the first time in MN last year, and I'd never heard of those raspberries, but they were the most delicious, and once we figured that out, we were on a mission to try and only pick the golden-colored ones. :)
Those scones look great!!! I'm baking challenged (well, kitchen challenged really) and I'm always so impressed when people can create things from food. :-D
ReplyDeleteThat's great about so many people getting referrals at Gladney! Does Gladney keep you posted on what # you are on the waitlist? That's such wonderful news and it means you are that much closer. :-D

The scones look great and I am so so so so proud of you! I am just flabbergasted! You are a little baking queen and you didn't even know it! It will be nice when the baby comes and you can bake treats for him/her!
When you get that referral it will be a great day and you'll be calling me ASAP!!!
I want one of those scones RIGHT NOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny that you saw all those Gladney Families on the Today Show and thought you had "adoption brain"! That was a local Gladney Family Association event, which sounded like fun but we had too much to do to get ready for the dinner to participate. Not sure that the timing had anything to do with the Gladney Cup, which is a big golf fundraiser that happens on the US Open courses in our area every other year.
ReplyDeleteNice work, Em! The scones look great! Maybe there's hope for both of us!
