An Amazing Gift

Yesterday was a good day! I knew that Heidi got home on Tuesday (go check out the beautiful photo of their family of FOUR!) but I was not expecting photos from her so quickly. I opened up my email mid morning and I had an unread message from her with the title, “Pictures of (baby’s name)!” My heart started pounding and it seemed like it took hours for the photos to download. It was probably 30 seconds. He is growing!! In the pictures he had on overalls and I seriously thought that he looked like he was ready for college. His eyes make my heart melt. Heidi gave me a wonderful description of him and used words like amazing, alert and happy. Oh the JOY!! Later in the morning two more emails came through from Heidi with VIDEOS!! Yes, I got to see my baby smile and look around and shake his arm all about. He is real. The videos make him seem truly alive to me. Of course, I know that he is real and alive but to see him interact with someone I adore was almost too much for me to handle. I almost lost it when Heidi put our photo book in his crib. It seems that if I don’t cry at work these days then something is terribly wrong. I just love him. Thank you, Heidi!!

I have also realized that Damon and I need to hurry up and get our travel vaccines. I am not looking forward to this. I am not sure why I am being a baby about it but I am. I think I will bring a picture of our little guy with me and just stare at him to remind myself that it is totally worth it!!

Question for Ethiopian Adoption Blogging Friends: Does anyone know of a blog for a family that has a court date and they will have to travel for that court date? I am starting to get nervous (biggest understatement of the century!!) about this whole two trip thing and would like to be able to properly stalk anyone going before me in this new era of Ethiopian adoptions. My anxiety is starting to creep up and up and I don’t like it!

Time to go watch my video for the billionth time!!

  1. I don't think any of the Gladney families with two trips have court dates yet.

We have to get our vaccines too... I've been putting it WAY off.

  3. BEAUTIFUL family photo - so glad I clicked over to see that. And I can't believe you have both photos and videos!!!! Videos would have sent me over the edge with Henry. I can only imagine how awesome it is for you to be able to see him actually moving and making noises. :)

  5. Yes, the photos & videos are the best presents EVER!!! It's the first thing I do each morning & last before bed. And isn't it awesome that our boys are roomies?
I haven't seen any Gladney or non-Gladney families received court dates under the new law yet. Great question! I'll be checking back.

  7. What a wonderful gift to get to see your son in pictures and video! WOW! I'm so happy for you. :) Want to know what's funny? Our updated pics of our son. . . he was also wearing overalls. Red ones. So precious! :)

I haven't heard anyone getting a court date. My agency told us that with the new process there is also an extra piece of paperwork needed. they said they are confident we'll all get that courtdate before the courts close in August, but wow, I was originally expecting much earlier than that.

    This waiting is HARD!

  8. My name is Kerry. I came across your blog on Gladneys site. We are also adopting but just started the process April 2010... we had our homestudy June 8th, so it looks like our timelines our similar (except I'm a year behind). We live near Cincinnati but on the Kentucky side. Anyways, just wanted to say HI! and let you know its super exciting to know I might be waiting for a court date this time next year! I can't yet imagine how trying this time must be for you, I will be praying it goes quick and smoothly! Maybe we can meet up sometime in Cincinnati or Columbus; I also have a friend here who brought home Ethiopian twin boys in March... playdate! :)
