Heard Around Here - Age 3 1/4

LB is essentially fully conversational at this point. I feel like we can talk about pretty much anything. I have to be careful about my word choice but his vocabulary is quite extensive. He still really struggles with pronouns. A lot of his sentences still start with "me" or "my" or "LB" when they should start with "I." But he's getting there and every now and then he does it correctly. If you are around him a lot then I think it's easy to understand him but for those who aren't the pronoun confusions can make it a little tough. I struggle with if I should correct him or not. So sometimes I correct him and other times I don't. At night, D and I will share stories of hilarious things he has said throughout the day and we'll ponder where he learned certain words. Over the weekend we both noticed that he said "speckled" several times and have no idea where he picked up that word. I need to keep better track of his language development but here are a few of our conversations as of late that I remember.

I had LB all strapped in the car to go to school and as I was getting Baby B in the car a bee flew in.
Me: "Oh Sh*t!!!!"
LB: "Why you say oh sh*t?"
Me: "Because a bee just flew in the car."
LB: "AHHHHHHH!!!!!"

***
Bedtime Conversation:
Me: "LB, you are getting so big."
LB: "My am. My be bigger and touch the sky and be a pilot."
Me: "You will."
LB: "You be there?"
Me: "Yes, I would love to be there."
LB: "No. Daddy will be there."
Me: "Well, can I come to?"
LB: "You can sit in the back."

***
LB: "My toes hurt."
Me: "That's because we need to cut your toenails."
LB: "No, I'll just get new ones."
Me: "Well, it doesn't work that way. You are stuck with the ones you've got."
LB: "Oh no!!!"

***
D: "LB, how was school today."
LB: "It was really good. K had really stinky toots."

***
As we were playing in his toy kitchen...
Me: "Could I have some pickles for my sandwich?"
LB: "Mommy, don't say pickles. That's a privacy word."

***
In the car.
LB: "My want some crackers."
Me: "I'm just waiting for some nice words."
LB: "Okay. It will be just be a minute."
long pause
LB: "May I have some crackers please?"

So you can see we do a lot of laughing around here. I do a lot of banging my head in frustration too but mostly we laugh.

  1. I love the "just a minute" before he has nice words. I feel like that sometimes as well!

  2. This is adorable! I think the pronoun thing is really normal. My kids all did it. Amani still refers to himself in the third person or says "My" instead of "I"
